Masako Hagiwara was born in Tokyo in 1940. She was educated at university in Tokyo, and in the U.K. at London University.
The spirit of her art is drawn from tea ceremony and Japanese calligraphy, both in which she was trained, and traditional sumie (black ink) painting.
She has previously been invited to exhibit her works on several occasions with the pottery of the famous Cardew family of potters in Cornwall: shown and sold her work through a London gallery, and on the Isle of Arran.
She is married to the writer Malcolm Ritchie, and currently lives on the Isle of Arran, Scotland.
